Determination of Four β-Agonists in Animal Derived Food by Ultra Performance Liquid Chromatography-Tandem Mass Spectrometry

  • Objective To establish a method for the determination of four β-agonists including clenbuterol, ractopamine, salbutamol, and terbutaline in meat products induced by ultra performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS).
Methods The test samples were enzymatically hydrolyzed with β-glucuronidase/arylsulfatase and purified by SLW solid phase extraction column. The residues were detected for four β-agonists by UPLC-MS/MS.
Results The proposed method showed a good linearity over the range of 0.1-20 μg/L for the four β-agonists with r>0.999 6 and the limit of detection (LOD) of 0.03-0.10 μg/kg (S/N=3). The average recoveries were 70.3%-97.1% and the relative standard deviations were 0.25%-4.5% when the samples were spiked at levels of 2, 5, and 10 μg/kg.
Conclusion This highly effective, selective, and sensitive method is suitable for detecting β-agonists in meat products.
