Study of Knowledge Level on HIV-related Occupational Protection and the Relative Factors among Local Policemen in a City of Guangxi

  • Objective To understand the knowledge level of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-related occupational protection among local policemen and study the related factors.

Methods A total of 505 local policemen were recruited by a stratified cluster method and surveyed by an anonymous questionnaire. Descriptive analysis on HIV-related occupational protection was performed and related factors affecting the knowledge score were examined by a variance analysis.

Results The average score of knowledge about HIV-related occupational protection among local policemen was 6.73. Only the factor ‘division’ was statistically significant in variance analysis among all factors:division, gender, age, the policemen serving years, nationality, education and marital status.

Conclusion The training on HIV-related occupational protection for local policemen should be strengthened. There is statistically significant difference in the knowledge level of HIV-related occupational protection in policemen among different divisions.
