Analysis on Depression and Its Influential Factors for Primary School Teachers in Zhenjiang

  • Objective To investigate the current situation of depression, stress perception, job burnout in primary school teachers and the relationship among these signs.

    Methods Altogether 262 teachers from 5 primary schools in Zhenjiang were chosen as target group to conduct demographic feature survey, Beck Depression Inventory(BDI), Cohen Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), Maslach Burnout Inventory(MBI)and self-compiled stress scale for teachers were used for this purpose.

    Results The rate of medium level depression in primary school teachers was 28.2%. The scores for stress perception, stress factor, emotional exhaustion and deindividualization in depression tendency group were remarkably higher than those in anti-depression tendency group(P<0.01). According to analysis of the multivariate linear regression modeling, the pressure caused by stress perception, job burnout and teaching management was more likely to predict the alteration of depression.

    Conclusion To some extent, stress perception and job burnout are related with depression of primary school teachers in Zhenjiang.
