Objective To investigate the prevalence and risk factors of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in residents of a district in Suzhou City.
Methods Residents aged 35-70 years were selected from four communities of a district in Suzhou and invited to questionnaire surveys and physical examinations. Chi-square test and non-conditional logistic regression analysis were applied to analyze data using SAS 8.0 software.
Results The standardized prevalence rate of T2DM was 8.60%. The prevalence of T2DM increased with age increment. The results of non-conditional logistic regression analysis indicated that the risk factors of T2DM in the residents were age, hypertension, and hypertriglyceridemia.
Conclusion The high prevalence rate of T2DM in the district of Suzhou suggests that measures should be taken to prevent and control T2DM.
