3D Glasses Cleansing and Disinfection in Nine Movie Theatres in Shanghai

  • Objective To investigate the conditions of cleansing and disinfecting 3D glasses in nine movie theatres in a district of Shanghai.

Methods Nine movie theatres that provided reusable 3D glasses for customers were selected to detect total bacterial count, mould, and selected pathogenic bacteria using random swab sampling techniques, and to calculate qualified rate.

Results A total of 69 samples were collected. Of the 33 samples without disinfection, the positive rates were 45.45% for total bacterial count and 9.09% for mould. Of the 36 samples with disinfection, the detection rates were 41.67% for total bacterial count and 8.33% for mould. No pathogenic bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, Saimonella, Shigella, and pathogenic Vibrio were detected, nor were viruses such as adenovirus, herpes zoster virus, herpes simplex virus type1, and herpes simplex virus type2.

Conclusion The numbers of total bacteria and mould collected from disinfected 3D glasses are slightly reduced. Strengthening the management of cleaning and disinfection for 3D glasses is of great public health significance.
