Objective To understand the epidemiological characteristics of occupational eye diseases in Jinshan District of Shanghai, and provide reference for making appropriate prevention and control measures.
Methods Occupational eye diseases data were collected by the national occupational eye diseases reporting card and China Disease Prevention and Control System from 2004 to 2014 to establish a database and conduct statistical analysis.
Results From 2004 to 2014, a total of 247 cases of occupational eye diseases were recorded in the selected area, in which 235 cases(95.1%) were male patients and 12 cases(4.9%) were female patients; 221 cases(89.5%) were chemical eye burns and 26 cases(10.5%) were photophthalmia. The occurrence of occupational eye diseases showed an M-shape trend. More cases of occupational eye diseases were reported in small enterprises(173, 70.0%), private enterprises(145, 58.7%), chemical materials and products industry(112, 45.3% ), and those with 0-5 working years(160, 64.8%).
Conclusion Further efforts should be put on the prevention and control of occupational eye diseases in Jinshan District, especially in the small private enterprises manufacturing chemical materials and chemical products.
