Abstract
Due to the high detection rates and complex biological activities of pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) in water environment, many studies have assessed the potential toxic effects and underlying biological mechanisms of PPCPs on nontarget organisms. Fish, as a main vertebrate in surface water ecosystem, plays an important role in indicating environmental changes. This paper summarized general information of PPCPs and focused on their toxic effects on fish, including acute toxicity, embryo developmental toxicity, oxidative stress, genotoxicity, endocrine disrupting effects, reproductive toxicity, cardiac toxicity, and joint toxicity, aiming to provide a theoretical basis for further study on the biological effects and mechanisms of PPCPs.
