Abstract
Trichloroethylene (TCE) is a volatile chlorinated organic compound commonly used in industrial settings with a widespread environmental contamination in the atmosphere, soil, and ground water. The adverse health effects of occupational and environmental exposure to TCE were important issues over the last 20 years. TCE causes acute and chronic toxicities involving multiple target organs/systems such as liver, kidney, heart, nervous system, skin, and immune system. This review focused on the effects of TCE on immune system and provided an overall conclusion for immunotoxicity of TCE and mode of action based on the data of molecular epidemiological studies and animal studies in vitro and in vivo.
