Epidemiological Study on Hand Injury and Its Prevention and Control

  • Hand is an important human organ with which we can carry out normal life and implement productive labor activities. Compared with other organs, hand is much more likely to be exposed to risk factors, and meanwhile is much more likely to be wounded. Diagnosis and treatment of hand injury is an important task in the hospital emergency department, and hand injury accounts for 15.0%-28.6% in case number. A literature review was made to trace the advance of the epidemiological study on hand injury and to analyze its relative risk factors. It was clear that hand injury control and preventive measures posed an important aspect among the injury control and prevention. After analysis on the“Haddon model” and “3-tier prevention strategies”, the article brought forward the key and critical points, and recommend 10 strategies on hand injury prevention. The professional institutions, such as Centers for Disease Control and Prevention from different levels, should play an important role in the control and prevention of hand injury. The working area should involve the hand injury surveillance, risk factors identification, action plan establishment and intervention effects evaluation.
